Current High Sheriff

Joe was born in Portsmouth and lived in Hampshire until heading to study English and American Literature at the University of East Anglia in Norwich.

He started his working life as a Graduate Trainee with British Leyland in Birmingham in 1973.  He moved to Warwickshire and over a 40 year career held various jobs in the motor industry, in the UK and overseas, notably Chairman and CEO of Jaguar Land Rover and finally Chairman of Ford of Britain. During this time he was also President of the Board of Trustees of the Motor Industry Benevolent Fund, Board Director of SEMTA (Sector Skills Council for Science, Engineering and Manufacturing) and President of the SMMT (Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders).

Other roles have included Chair of Council at UEA, his old university, from which he has recently retired.  Joe is proud to be a Deputy Lieutenant of Warwickshire and is currently Chairman of the Fundraising Committee of the Lord Leycester Hospital in Warwick.

Joe has lived in Harbury since 1981 with his wife Anne and their children, three daughters and one son (sadly deceased aged 14).  His hobbies include, theatre, music, reading anything, walking, vegetable growing, watching sport (frustratingly being a fan of Newcastle United), classic cars, (his E Type roadster is his pride and joy), and playing golf and occasionally tennis.
