the young high sheriff winner event
A great evening celebrating the winner of the first Young High Sheriff Competition, Aaron Dhesi. Held at The Old Shire Hall in Warwick.
Some background - this is a competition which has been instigated by our current High Sheriff - the mission is to engage young people with this important role.
Students from Years 10 - 13 are invited to enter the Young High Sheriff for a Day Competition. They must convey to the
community judges why they should be chosen for the role of “Young High Sheriff” by submitting a 500-word essay,
a 200-word poem or a 3-minute video clip.
One student from a school selected by the High Sheriff could win this competition. The winner will have the opportunity to
become the Young High Sheriff for a day, assisting the High Sheriff to carry out their official duties on behalf of the King.
The positive momentum generated by the competition amongst young people, has been harnessed. Here in Warwick,
our Young High Sheriff finalists are running workshops to produce a report for the High Sheriff’s charity: Crimebeat.
The report will discuss crimes they are concerned about, what they would like to see done about those crimes and
what they could do themselves to avoid, reduce and tackle those crimes.
