wfrs annual awards ceremony
"Lord Lieutenant, Chair of the Council, Ladies and
Gentlemen.
I am delighted to be able to attend this evening to see
you all and to present this year’s Putting the Community
First Awards.
I know that when the public think of the Fire Service they
will normally think of firefighters riding dramatically to the
rescue and doing daring deeds to save us. Whilst this is
of course sometimes true, it can be easy to overlook all the routine and proactive work carried out by teams or
individuals out in the community every day.
Many times this goes un-noticed simply because it is
done out of sight, or is done with, or by, partner
agencies, or because it leads to the emergency that
doesn’t happen and so never becomes a story to be told.
But it is just as critical and indeed defines the very
essence of the Fire Service – always being ready,
always being there and always looking for new ways to
serve and protect their community. It is this that makes it
a service that is so regarded and respected by the public
at large that I can speak on behalf of tonight.
The recipients tonight have all serviced their
communities in different ways to deserve their awards.
Whilst the reasons for the awards are quite different,
they are all the same in that they are very well deserved
and on behalf of the whole of the community in
Warwickshire, with whose thanks I give, I have great
pleasure in presenting them now.
