The southam heritage walk for charity
I would like to extend my thanks to Southam Mayor Cllr Angela John for the kind invitation to the Southam Heritage Walk. The experience was both intriguing and educational, thanks to the insightful commentary provided by the knowledgeable Southam guides, Bernard and Linda.
This ancient market town is beautifully situated in the countryside, featuring charming and historically significant buildings. We began our journey at The Grange, a Georgian house that originally served as a private residence before transitioning to commercial use in the 20th century. Notably, during World War I, it functioned as a Red Cross Hospital. As we made our way toward the town, it was captivating to learn about the histories of landmarks such as The Olde Mint, The Convent, and the first Fire Station.
I found myself transported back in time, envisioning the vast herds of cattle and sheep that once traversed the market streets on their way to London.
