Presentation for the Police Cadets at Warwickshire & South
Great to be part of the Magistrates in the Community presentation at Leicestershire & Hinckley College with the police cadets, as the High Sheriff and also representing the Magistrates Association.
The session began with insightful feedback from the cadets on their recent Test Purchase exercise at local hotels, where they explored how easy it was for a child to make a booking. Their findings sparked valuable discussions on safeguarding and legal responsibilities.
Following this, a fellow Magistrates Association member delivered an interactive presentation, offering the cadets a deeper understanding of the role of magistrates in the justice system. They learned about court procedures, how decisions are made, and the importance of impartiality in delivering justice.
We also shared the requirements to become a magistrate, highlighting that no formal legal background is needed—just good character, sound judgment, and a commitment to fairness. It was inspiring to see the cadets engage with the idea that anyone from the community can step forward and play a role in upholding justice.
Fantastic to see the next generation of policing professionals gaining such crucial knowledge about the law and the courts.
