re-dedication ceremony

A re-dedication ceremony was held in the Leamington Cemetery for the grave of Corporal William Amey VC MM on Sunday August 21st.

Corporal William Amey VC MM  has a blue plaque at his former home in Leamington. His actions leading to the VC and MM occured in 1918 on the "Western Front'. He served with the Royal Warwickshire Regiment (by amalgamation now part of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, also known as the FUSILIERS).  He died in 1940 and had a Civic Funeral.

Whilst the local Warwick and Leamington  (FUSILIERS) Branch of the Regiment had generally looked after the grave it became apparent it needed substantial work and was almost unsafe. This was organised through the Branch and the VC & GC Association (who funded the work) and the Regimental Headquarters at HM Tower of London. The work was undertaken by local monumental masons.
